The Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) is a set of laws that have been set up to protect Canadians by limiting the amount of unsolicited or spam messages they receive in their inboxes. CASL compliant legislation changed the way that businesses can collect information on their customers because it requires them to obtain consent before sending any email out.
Now, a business must give their clients the opportunity to opt-in or opt-out of marketing materials. The hope is that by forcing organizations to obtain consent that this will help to fight electronic spam.
